Atlanta Pride 2008 Performance Lineup

Pride might be happening on a different weekend (July 4th) this year and in a new location (Atlanta Civic Center) but the announced lineup seems relatively solid.

Some of the bigger names performing are Thelma Houston, CeCe Peniston, Frenchie Davis, Tiffany and Sarah Bettens (former K's Choice lead singer). 

K's Choice you might remember scored a hit on alternative radio in 1996 with Not An Addict.

The Walk Of Shame

I saw this energy drink commercial over the weekend and loved it. My first reaction was that I had been there and done that too many times. Perhaps you can relate?

Probably one of the most realistic yet funny advertisements I have seen in a long time.
I love the guy in the thong sitting on the stoop.

The Trails

Whoever misterrichardson is on YouTube is he has a nice collection of vintage gay Atlanta clips.

The one below is a comical look at the gay cruising area that once existed in Piedmont Park that was commonly referred to as the 'trails.' Some may think Piedmont Park is a a cruisy area today but it is nothing compared to the 80s and 90s when there was a network of trails in the woods and in the kudzu where men would cruise and connect for sex.

Even in the mid 90s I can remember walking along the northern side of Lake Clara Meer where there were more trees and being followed or seeing men leaning against trees awaiting action. Piedmont Park may be more clean and green these days but the recreation found there is tame compared to the old days.

Stating the Obvious

 

It is kinda stating the obvious to call me a "faggot" when I am waiting to cross the street at 10th and Piedmont at midnight on a Wednesday. You would think that we could get beyond that in 2008? But not the fat guy in the gray sedan last night who insisted on yelling it at me and my boyfriend last night as we were waiting for the light to change so we could go to Blake's. Once was enough honey you did not need the additional two times but thanks for noticing.

There was confirmation last night that Midtown still has some flavor left. It has not all been buried underneath the concrete condo towers. A man with a pot belly pig was splayed out on the sidewalk in front of the Bank of America ATM across from Gilbert's and Blake's. No camera was available at the time but you will have to believe me. I haven't smelled pig shit since I left the farm many moons ago.

Also thanks to person that glued three quarters to the sidewalk in front of the BOA ATM on 10th. I love you.

After Blake's... Noel, Carl and I went over to Burkharts for pool and karaoke. After karaoke the vultures flocked around a guy in a brown shirt and black tie downstairs. Everything above the waist came off and we ate the shit up like candy. Whoever that guy was I want to photograph you. Darling you are a fine specimen.

The Colorbox? I haven't heard that name in forever. Now, I never went to the Colorbox because I was too young at the time. I do however remember seeing it. Thankfully the Majestic remains.
